How can Excel help me?

Excel provides access to meaningful community opportunities and/or employment, identifies the tools needed for you to succeed, and provides the training necessary in order for you to fulfill your vocational or personal goals.

Am I eligible for services?

To be eligible for services, you must be at least18 years or older (unless referred through a school program), and be diagnosed with a physical or mental condition and in need of community based habilitative, rehabilitative, or vocational services. You must also provide state identification and a copy of your birth certificate or social security card.

What are the hours of service?

Services are typically provided Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Job Coaches are arranged on a case-by-case basis for individuals who are required to work evenings or weekends. Your individual schedule is based upon several factors designed to meet your specific needs.

What are the locations of service?

Excel provides services throughout Oakland and Livingston Counties. Services are typically provided in the community, with occasional in-house activities at some locations.

Is public transportation available?

Limited public transportation is available. Job coaches may provide transportation during services in their own personal vehicles. Excel has three vans available in Livingston County for people who use wheelchairs.

Are service locations accessible, clean and safe?

Excel maintains and follows an Accessibility Plan, which ensures that services and physical locations are accessible to everyone, regardless of physical or mental barriers. Accessibility is assessed annually and goals are monitored on a quarterly basis. Service locations and staff vehicles are monitored on a regular basis for safety and cleanliness. Staff training is provided to ensure health and safety procedures are followed and concerns are addressed immediately.

How will I be involved in planning my services?

You are the most important person involved in planning your services. Your input is critical to ensuring Excel is providing meaningful and satisfactory services. How long does it take for services to begin?

Services typically begin within 14 days of admission to your program. Often times, services start immediately.

What types of accommodations will be provided if I need them?

Excel provides reasonable accommodations, on a case-by-case basis, to all people served. Excel works with employers to arrange accommodations on the job. Unless undue hardship would occur, accommodations may include restructuring existing facilities or jobs, acquiring or modifying assistive equipment or devices, modifying schedules, adjusting training materials, or adjusting policies/procedures. An accommodation request form is available.

How are cultural differences respected and accommodated for?

Excel is committed to providing unbiased services regardless of race, culture, sexual orientation, religion, gender, age, socio-economic status or language. Cultural considerations are taken into account when planning services, and accommodations are made whenever possible.

Are Excel’s services accredited by a recognized accreditation organization?

Excel is accredited for Community Employment Services in Job Development, Job Supports and Job Site Training through CARF, the Center for Accreditation for Rehabilitative Facilities. Excel follows stringent policies and guidelines during service delivery designed to assure effectiveness and efficiency of services.

How can my family or others participate in my services?

Your success requires assistance and cooperation from everyone involved in your life. Your family and/or support staff’s input and involvement are essential to the planning and success of your services. Assisting you with your schedule, providing emotional support and assisting with transportation are some of the ways they may be able to support you.

If I am unhappy with the way I am treated or with the services that I receive, what can I do?

Excel is committed to providing the highest quality services to everyone served. Part of this commitment is encouraging an open and honest atmosphere in which any problem, complaint, suggestion, or question receives a timely response and a reasonable solution. Excel encourages communication regarding any issue, concern or complaint as soon as they arise. If the situation seems to occur despite repeated attention, or is of a serious nature, Excel has a formal grievance procedure to ensure that your concern is handled in a timely and effective manner.

How does Excel ensure that quality services are being provided?

Excel has a formal Quality Management Plan that identifies agency assessments, barriers and goals to ensure that quality services are always provided. Service delivery and outcomes are monitored on a quarterly basis by the Quality Management Committee, and revisions are made as necessary to ensure services are effective, efficient and satisfactory.
